Watch out for further details.Everyone gets to be involved this year.

We hope to have the Lexile program operating in a few weeks.
If you have trouble finding a book at your level, this is the program for you.

Then at the term we will be preparing for the major refurbishment that will happen in the July holidays.

Keep reading and bring your book to the library on Wednesdays to share with the others.

Term 1 - What's new!

The library is late opening while the new reading area
is developed at the back of the library.

The library staff are busy editing books that are being transferred
to the Non fiction, then they will reshelve everything.

Sounds complicated? Well it is really, so bear with us while we get it
all sorted!

Look forward to a NEW BOOKS DISPLAY and a Borders shopping trip
later in the term.

International School Libraries Day
Monday, 27 October 2008

We celebrated by creating 'continents'. We used the books
that were published or were about, countries in each continent.
It was interesting. Each continent had a different 'flavour'.

Delany Book of the year 2008

Announcing our 2008 winners!

This year Delany students really liked the Older Reader nominations, but were generally perplexed by the huge range within both the Younger Readers section and the Picture Book category.

The theme was 'Fuel for your mind' and resulted a highly decorated petrol pump adorning the library.

The Delany winners this year were
Older readers: 'Marty's shadow', almost unanimously.

Younger readers: 'Dragon's moon'. There was a 3 way tie in this section, and 'Dragon's moon' won after a further vote.

Picture books: Our winner was 'Dust' and we also liked 'Ziba came in a boat', however we were amazed by 'Requiem for a beast',
and we do not understand where it fits in the nominations.
The readers read it together to try to get a 'feel' for it, before borrowing. However, its depth and novelty of production were generally not appreciated by the readers.

This lead to an ongoing discussion amongst students and the L-TAG have decided to look into other existing selections of recent books, or ways to create our own shortlist. Meantime we are taking part in the 2009 Inkeys.

'DELANY READS! WEEK' - 19-23 MAY 2008
This year we are all involved.

MONDAY: The Book team are off to Borders with your list of requests to purchase (mostly) for the Fiction collection.

TUESDAY: At Recess, come to the library for the competitions launch.
At Lunch, the Staff are buying for the Non Fiction collection.

WEDNESDAY: While you come to school for parent interviews,
the library staff will be cataloguing all those books from Monday!

THURSDAY: This is the BIG day!
Daniel, who is doing his gold award, has arranged for Merrylands,
Parramatta and Auburn libraries to send 2 librarians to tell you what
they have for you. Hear them briefly at assembly, and come to the
library for more at Recess. Each library is very keen to hear what you would like too.

FRIDAY: At recess, the competition winners will be announced
in the library, and most of the books purchased on Monday will be released. and finally...
at lunchtime, Mr Clarke will hold a manga/anime/graphic novel
workshop.
Just what do those terms mean?
How do you tell a 'good' one?
And how come they are so popular now?

Announcing our Books of the Year!

...And the winner is...

We held our awards ceremony on
Wednesday August 22

Thankyou to the Reading team, who organised another memorable event.

This year the adult judges agreed with us that
      Catherine Bateson's 'Being Bee'
was the best Younger Reader book. But not one student voted for the
winners of the other 2 national categories which were Shaun Tan's
'The Arrival' as best picture book, and Margot Lanagan's 'Red spikes'.

Mrs Radford says these are excellent books, but they were not the books
that we liked this year.
Our winning picture book was
      'The water witcher'
and the Older readers' winner was almost a tie, with
      'My big birkett'
just winning over
      'Don't call me Ishmael'.

Ben Okri's '10 1/2 inclinations' was our theme for today

No entry without a ticket!

Everyone enjoyed it

And now... announcing the INKYS! Starting 24 September!
